Lobster Gear

Lobster catching is the most productive fishery in Casco Bay. Actually it is more farming then fishing. The traps are built to allow small lobsters to enter, eat and leave. Any undersized lobsters left in the trap when it is hauled is released. Also only a fraction of the big lobsters actually remain in the trap. So the lobstermen feed the lobsters for years before they take them to market.
